Welcome to the Société du Lambic 7th Wild and Sour Homebrew Competition. The Société du Lambic was formed by the Society of Barley Engineers homebrew club along with homebrewers around San Diego County to celebrate the Belgian tradition of lambic as well as other wild and sour beers. What started as an internal competition is now opened to all who would like to showcase beers that are tart, sour, fruity, and/or funky.

This competition is open to amateur homebrewers and will be judged based upon the 2021 BJCP Beer Style Guidelines. Beers should be appropriate for Category 23 A-G (European Sour Beer), Category 28 A-D (American Wild Ale), or Category X4 (Catharina Sour), as well as wild and sour beers that meet criteria for Category 34 B-C (Mixed Style and Experimental). Each participant can submit up to one entry per subcategory. The competition adminstrators reserve the right to combine categories for distribution of medals as appropriate based upon the number of entries in those categories.

The first 50 paid entries will receive a 25% discount from the standard entry price of $12.

The Award Ceremony will take place during the regular meeting of the Society of Barley Engineers on November 5, 2025 at 6:30 PM PST at Pure Project, 1305 Hotspring Way, Vista, CA 92081. The meeting will also be broadcast live via Zoom.

Please join us in celebration of wild and sour beers.
